I'm Becky Sherman, a global design leader who delivers results, not just design. I'm a trusted partner to product and engineering leadership, on equal footing, enabling teams to use customer centricity as a strategic lever that drives business outcomes, from a $111 million revenue lift at American Airlines to embedding design into the product lifecycle at Siemens. With more than 140 customer-facing and employee-facing applications under my organization's care, I lead by building durable systems and standards that let teams operate independently, not by directing every effort myself. My titles haven't always said UX. I've been a product manager, a director of eBusiness and an IT delivery manager, and that range is why design, product and engineering don't feel like three departments to me. They feel like one job.

Over eight years at American Airlines, I've led the organization through two major transformations. I grew the team from 40 to 64, reduced it by 30% during COVID, then rebuilt it to more than 130 professionals. Both required the same skill, reading what the business actually needs and building or rebuilding the organization to match it. My range spans retail, telecom, industrial software and aviation, and it's the reason I can walk into a new business, learn what it needs, and build the design function to deliver it.

Background: MS in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience, with a specialization in Human-Computer Interaction. It's why research gets built into how organizations operate, not just how products get tested.
